in moving things that do not desire to move is a 30-page publication that draws from classic Philippine cinema and National Artist for Literature Cirilo Bautista’s epic, The Trilogy of St. Lazarus. In the process of cross-pollination, these two sources were discovered to be equally political, equally lyrical. To venture: if Brocka wrote a poem, it could have been Sunlight on Broken Stones, and if Bautista made a film, it could have been Insiang.

As a Tropikalye sub-project, the work is a collection of timeless images and words from Filipino oeuvres, borrowed and indexed, that holds true in today’s continuing struggle against state violence and impunity in the Philippines. It is produced in collaboration with Costantino Zicarelli, who is likewise one with the unrest surrounding the new Anti-terror Law, enacted during the world’s longest community quarantine.
